As used in this subchapter—

(1) “Statute of limitations” means the maximum amount of time following the commission or discovery of an offense, as provided by law, during which criminal charges may be filed for the criminal acts alleged.

(2) “Tolling event” means any event which causes a statute of limitations to be tolled.

(3) “Tolled” means a statute of limitations is paused or delayed, and the time during which charges may be filed will be extended.
