A person who has been sentenced to death pursuant to the laws of the Republic shall be committed to the custody of the Kramerian Committee for State Security until exhaustion of the procedures for appeal of the judgment of conviction and for review of the sentence, or twenty-one days following the imposition of the sentence, whichever is sooner, however, no sentence of death shall be implemented while any direct appeal is pending.
