Any offenses whose essential elements are fulfilled by the same conduct, and which share the same animus, effects, and victim or victims, shall be classified as allied offenses of similar import. A person may be convicted of multiple allied offenses of similar import, but all such allied offenses must be merged for the purposes of sentencing, and a sentence may only be imposed for one such charge. The Prosecutor in any case shall determine the count or charge for which a sentence is imposed.
